Street Sense Filly

    • From the family of Oaks winner Proud Spell

    • Heading to Hall of Famer Asmussen

    • Also from family as multiple grade 1 winner Letruska

What a timely pedigree boasted by this stout filly, joining the West Point roster right before the First Friday and Saturday in May, as a daughter of Kentucky Derby hero Street Sense and coming from the immediate family of Kentucky Oaks winner Proud Spell.

Our team was impressed with the way this big filly blazed an eighth of a mile in 10 flat, earning good marks from David Ingordo and his team and with an above average stride length for the session.

Recio also sold a colt from this very same sale last year named Mo Strike, who proceeded to win an early maiden special weight at Churchill Downs last June and went on to score by 3+ lengths in the Grade 3 Sanford Stakes, the first big 2-year-old race of the 2022 Saratoga meet.

Street Sense was the first horse ever to win both the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and Kentucky Derby and much of his best progeny have been speedier than he was, among them Speaker’s Corner, who recorded a whopping 114 Beyer in winning the Grade 1 Carter Handicap around one turn in 2022. Other than Flightline, that was the highest winning Beyer for a race in North America in three years.

This filly is out of a Ghostzapper mare and her second dam is a full sister to Proud Spell, who not only starred in the Kentucky Oaks but also the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes at Saratoga, which cemented her with championship honors for the 3-year-old filly division.

Price includes all acquisition costs and all training, veterinary, and insurance expenses until January 1, 2024.

Trainer: Steve Asmussen

  • Two-time Eclipse Award winner for leading trainer and was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 2016.
  • Won 3 Triple Crown races and 5 Breeders’ Cup races. Top horses include Champs Curlin, Epicenter, Rachel Alexandra, Gun Runner, Echo Zulu, Kodiak Kowboy, My Miss Aurelia, Untapable.
  • Broke the All-Time North American win record and won 5 Grade 1 races at Saratoga in 2021.

What a collector’s item pedigree and a filly with all the parts to get us to the filly classics. Steve Asmussen knows how to get horses to the first weekend in May and with this pedigree, it was a no-brainer to send her to the Asmussen barn. By Street Sense out of a Ghostzapper mare…two turns and dirt!
