Twirling Candy has steadily risen to prominence as a sire, finishing 2021 as the 10th leading sire in the country. His top runners include Concrete Rose, Gift Box, Preakness winner Rombauer, Pinehurst, and Beyond Brilliant, who was already a Grade 1 winner and is now poised for the Breeders’ Cup Mile after punching his ticket with a victory in the City of Hope Mile (G2) at Santa Anita.
What is a key common thread: David Ingordo picked out Beyond Brilliant as well as Twirling Candy’s millionaire filly Concrete Rose and millionaire colt Gift Box, and he loved our new colt at Keeneland.
We’ve been involved with this colt since he was born at Lane’s End Farm in April of 2021. And we were tickled to buy out a breeding partnership to get him into the racing stable for Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey.
Shug trains the colt’s graded stakes placed half-brother Battle of Normandy. That City of Light colt broke his maiden at first asking at Saratoga, then was second by a narrow margin in the With Anticipation Stakes (G3T). He’s now bound for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.
It’s a deep pedigree — his dam is a stakes winner, and two of the three dams under her are stakes fillies as well.
Terry on the Twirling Candy colt: “We know the colt’s half brother is talented — he was a neck away from being City of Light’s first graded stakes winner. The market is crazy hot, and at that price point, it made a lot of sense for us to add him to the racing stable. He’s a racy, well-balanced horse.”
Price includes all acquisition costs and all training, veterinary, and insurance expenses until January 1, 2024.
