Midnight Trace Wins First Time Out / Wednesday, December 31, 2014

Midnight Trace made his first trip to the races a winning one with a 1 1/4 length score in the nightcap on Saturday at Tampa Bay Downs. Dispatched as the favorite, he broke inward and was then caught very wide around the clubhouse turn. After settling a few lengths off the pace down the backside, he rallied when called upon by Erick Rodriguez and pulled away while drifting out in the final sixteenth.

A 3-year-old Ontario-bred son of Scat Daddy, Midnight Trace was purchased by the WPT buying team at the 2014 Barretts Select Sale in March and subsequently shipped back to the East Coast to join Graham Motion’s stable.

One of the great things about being stabled at Palm Meadows is the ability to train on the grass. After watching this horse on both the dirt and the turf in the mornings, Motion determined the gelding was best suited for the weeds. That’s not a surprise with him being a son of Scat Daddy.

With him being a Canadian-bred, so there’s a pretty good chance he sees action at Woodbine in 2015.

Congratulations to our Partners on the final black and gold victory of 2014!
