West Point juveniles Mist and Toasting Master found the winner’s circle on closing weekend of the Churchill Downs Fall Meet for trainer Dale Romans.

Mist, a Canadian-bred son of Sharp Humor got his picture taken at first asking on Thanksgiving Day. Under Shaun Bridgmohan, he broke sharply and never looked back, leading from gate to wire.

“This was a very encouraging first out effort,” said WPT EVP Jeff Lifson. “When you have a Canadian-bred run this well first time out naturally you start thinking about the Queen’s Plate, a million dollar race at Woodbine over the summer. A lot can happen between now and then and he needs to continue developing, but this is a great starting point. He dug in when headed which I love to see with a two-year-old.”

Toasting Master won for the second time at the Fall Meet, getting to the wire just in time in a first level allowance race on Saturday afternoon. Stakes action is up next for this son of Congrats who is a half brother to stakes winners Broadway’s Alibi, R Gypsy Gold, and Golden Lad. He broke his maiden in his second career start on November 8 before getting the job done in his first start against winners.

“This is a very talented colt, but he still has a lot to learn,” said Romans. “We wanted to stretch him out but this race came up easier than the mile allowance race and we were coming back in three weeks. It’s time to go two turns and see if he can take the next step and get onto the Kentucky Derby trail.”

Both colts are heading down to Gulfstream Park within the next few days. Keep an eye on our upcoming races to find out where they’re headed next. They are are eligible for the OBS Championship races at the end of January as they were purchased by West Point Thoroughbreds earlier this year at OBS 2-Year-Old in Training Sales.
