Alocadito scores win at Aqueduct

December 04, 2004 · By · Share

Alocadito West Point's five-year-old son of Mutakddim scored a game victory wearing down the pacesetter late to score a half-length victory in the "a other than" allowance at Aqueduct.  Kiaran McLaughlin said, "I really wasn't concerned going around two turns.  This colt doesn't need to have the lead, so I wasn't really concerned when the other horses went out.  Our colt rates pretty well.  There was a lot of fractiousness before the race, but he remained real calm.  We actually didn't have the best trip which was the only thing that really hurt us.  We got pinned down on the rail and the inside didn't up, so we didn't get clear run until maybe the eighth pole when Bejarano swung him out.  He responded well though and wanted it."

Breaking from the rail, Alocadito got away alertly and was allowed to settle by Rafael Bejarano sitting third a length and a half back after a quarter-mile in 23.3.  Bejarano kept Alocadito down on the inside sitting fourth just over two-lengths back after a half-mile in 47.2.  Alocadito was trapped down on the rail behind the speed through the turn remaining two-lengths back after six furlongs in 1:12.2.  Bejarano continued to bide his time waiting for room before getting a slight opening at the eighth pole and swinging Alocadito out.  Alocadito responded when asked wearing down the winner late to get the job done.
