Ellieonthemarch wins at Calder

Ellieonthemarch scored an impressive victory in the "two other than" allowance on December 13th at Calder.  After enduring a tough trip in her previous race, she rebounded beautifully unleashing a ferocious stretch kick to win going away yesterday.  Trainer Rick Violette said, "Cornelio (Velasquez) said she remained really focused in the first turn even when she had horses to the outside of her.  I think the blinkers are really helping her.  Then he was able to get her outside down the backstretch, and still save ground on the final turn.  She really kicked strong in the lane.  The last three-sixteenths went in 29.2 and the last sixteenth was an eye popping five and change.  I really believe this filly will be competitive for us over the winter at Gulfstream."

Breaking from post two, Ellie got away alertly and was taken back by Cornelio Velasquez into sixth after a quarter-mile in 23.2.  Ellie got a little clear running room down the backstretch while still sitting sixth about three-lengths back after a half-mile 48.2.  Velasquez kept Ellie reserved through the turn before swinging her out four wide and cutting her loose.  She rallied from about five-lengths back with a quarter-mile to go to win by a half-length while drawing away.  The running time for the mile and sixteenth was a solid 1:41.2.

Ellie collected $13,800 for the win and pushed the career earnings for the three-year-old daughter of Old Trieste over $82,000 from eight career starts.
