YOLANDA B. TOO WINS IMPRESSIVELY
Yolanda B. Too our three-year-old daughter of Two Punch fulfilled her long awaited promise scoring a decisive victory in her return race at Saratoga on July 30th.
Trainer Rick Violette said, "I said last year that I thought this filly had graded stakes talent. I still do. We had a black cloud hanging over us all winter and spring. It was little things that we just couldn't shake. If they've got talent you don't want to rush them especially since she's not the biggest filly. When we finally got her right, Terry (Finley) let me take my time with her. He believed in her, and that allowed me to make sure we didn't have to rush her. We want to give this filly a chance to stay around and win the kind of races people dream about."
Jockey Rafael Bejarano said, "I didn't have to do much. She was bumped at the gate, and she lost some ground. I had to push her up inside, and then we had to wait for room, but when the hole opened up and I asked her she did the rest."
Breaking from post four, Yolanda B. Too was bumped soundly coming out of the gate and was shuffled back to last early. Rafael Bejarano found a seam on the inside and hustled Yolanda up on the rail into contention. She sat fourth less than two-lengths back after a quarter-mile in 22.2. The pacesetter formed a wall through the turn, and Yolanda lacked room. However, she was moving easily and was looming large still in fourth after a half-mile in 45.4. Bejarano was looking for room in the stretch, but he didn't panic and as soon as the hole opened up on the rail he dove Yolanda inside and she responded gamely drawing off to win by nearly five lengths.
Yolanda B. Too earned $27,000 for the victory and will be pointed for an "a other than" allowance back at Saratoga.
