Shade The Cat broke his maiden on October 26th scoring a gutty victory at the Meadowlands.  Breaking from post five, Shade The Cat got away in good order and was quickly taken back and allowed to settle by jockey Elvis Trujillo toward the back of the pack.  Shade The Cat sat fifth just over four-lengths back after a quarter-mile in a sharp 23 flat.  Shade The Cat was a little wide heading into the backstretch, but he remained settled still setting fifth after a half-mile in 46.2.  Trujillo nudged Shade The Cat forward as he commenced a bid into the turn and drawing on almost even terms after six furlongs in 1:12.  When the field straightened away in the stretch, Shade The Cat spurted clear and repelled bids from both the inside and outside as he kicked clear late to win by nearly two-lengths. Rick's assistant Melissa said, "The kid let him settle early.  They went fast on the front especially for these types of horses, and he didn't rush him.  He let him get out in the clear, and then it looked like the one horse might try to make a run at him, but he kept him inside of him and we got first run.  Then, our horse showed a lot of heart and dug in.  They weren't going to get past." Shade The Cat earned $8,400 for his win.
