After a year of ups and downs, Mr. Component made his second career start a winning one on September 3rd at Saratoga.  Sent off as the odds on favorite, Mr. Component broke a little slowly again, and Fernando Jara had to push him up to the front or risk being shut off on behind a wall of horses.  Mr. Component set an honest pace of 46.2 for the half-mile while being pressured the whole way.  Fernando Jara did a nice job of just sitting chilly on him and keeping him as relaxed as possible.  When they straightened away in the stretch he set Mr. Component down for the drive, and Mr. Component responded.  He dug in gamely on the rail and held sway to the wire to win.

Kiaran McLaughlin said, "They did everything they could to beat us today.  We didn't help ourselves when we broke a little slowly again.  Fernando really had no choice but to send him up.  Then, we had a few horses take a run at us.  We never could enjoy a breather.  They pressed us on the front end, and then when we shook free they took a run at us in the stretch.  Our colt just dug in.  Fernando kept busy on him, but the colt wouldn't let them by.  He ran a game race.  He's still getting it all together, but this was really nice to get his maiden broken at Saratoga after all he's been through."

Mr. Component earned $28,200 for his efforts. He appeared to cool out after the race fine.  We'll look to bring him back in a NY Bred "a other than" at Belmont.
