Coming off more than an eleven month layoff, Itsaffirmative wasted no time in getting to the winner's circle scoring in impressive wire to wire fashion on December 29th at Aqueduct.  Facing a short run into the first turn, Itsaffirmative was fanned four or five wide on the first turn, and jockey Jose Santos had to hustle Itsaffirmative pretty hard to achieve decent track position.  Itsaffirmative grabbed a half-length lead through a crackling quarter-mile in 22.3.  Santos was able to slow Itsaffirmative down a little bit on the backstretch, but the half still went in a swift 46.3.  Itsaffirmative gradually opened up a lead heading into the turn for home, and he hit the top of the stretch with a three-length advantage.  Despite setting all the fractions, Itsaffirmative dug in resolutely on the inside and fought off a late challenge to win by a head.

Kiaran's assistant trainer Artie said, "That was a lot of fun.  We've waited a long time for this colt to be able to show what he can really do.  We didn't see his best in that first start, but you could see the light bulb begin to really go on with him when we got him back.  He was training like a racehorse, and this race was very impressive.  Itsaffirmative had to run hard early, and he never quit.  The horse that was chasing us early finished dead last.  That was not an easy trip we had.  He was wide, and he had to be used pretty hard.  If we move forward from this like we can, then we'll have a lot of fun over the winter.

Itsaffirmative earned $26,400 in his return. We'll look to bring him back to face winners in an "a other than" allowance during the second half of January.
