Ollie Jet wins!!!

March 09, 2007 · By · Share Ollie Jet simply refused to lose wiring the field in an "a other than" allowance race on March 9th at the Fair Grounds. Breaking from the rail, apprentice jockey Joseph Talamo sent Ollie Jet to the front where he battled through a spirited quarter-mile in 22.1.  Ollie maintained a length lead through a half-mile, and Talamo did a nice job giving him a little bit of a breather in the second quarter.  When the field straightened away in the stretch Ollie surged clear. He was quickly joined with just over a sixteenth to go, and the eventual runner-up actually stuck his head in front of Ollie between calls in the stretch.  Ollie was resolute though and dug in along the rail.  He surged back in front in the final fifty yards and was actually pulling away again at the wire to score a neck victory.

Dallas Stewart said, "That was an awesome race.  Speed was a little better today, but very few horses can win wire to wire on the Fair Grounds turf.  That's any horse let alone a lightly raced three-year-old that has never run on the turf before.  This horse is as game as they come.  I think Joe (Talamo) went to the left-handed stick to try and get Ollie to see that other horse, but I'm not sure even he could have expected Ollie to fight back like he did.  The race is going to look good on paper, but it also showed a lot about this colt's character.  It also opens up a world of possibilities down the line.  We know he can handle the dirt and the turf, and he's got good natural speed.  We'll keep him moving forward."

Ollie Jet earned $27,900 for his win bringing his career total to $51,550 in only three career starts.
