Stevie Baseball wins

May 23, 2007 · By · Share

Stevie Baseball who is owned by Don Brooks and Nick Cammarano and managed by West Point Thoroughbreds broke his maiden on May 23rd at Delaware Park.  Stevie Baseball stalked the pace early and then advanced through an opening on the rail in the stretch.  He sat in behind the early pacesetters, remained covered up all the way down the backstretch, and finally surged through when provided an opening to draw off late.

Trainer Lupe Preciado said, "Ramon (Dominguez) rode him perfectly.  I told him to try and wait to ask the horse to run.  I wanted him to keep him pretty close to the pace, so he let him have his head early.  He took a light hold, and he sat in perfect position.  When he asked him the horse showed some courage going through on the inside and drawing off.  I figured if Ramon could keep him close without asking him for speed he might be okay."

It appears that okay was an understatement.
