Dream Big! Dream Rush wins Prioress(G1)

July 07, 2007 · By · Share

On a day rife with lucky symbolism, 7/7/07, Dream Rush needed little luck as she proved her superiority in winning the $250,000 Prioress Stakes at Belmont.  Dream Rush now joins the likes of Dark Mirage, Ta Wee, Dearly Precious, Safely Kept, and Xtra Heat as winners of the Prioress.  Breaking from post nine, Dream Rush got away alertly and sat second through the very early stages of the race.  However, she quickly assumed command after a quarter-mile in 22 flat and maintained an edge through a half in 44.3.  Dream Rush then put the race away exploding to over a five-length advantage after five furlongs in 56.2.  Dream Rush then held sway to the wire under steady handling covering the six furlongs in 1:09 flat.

Trainer Rick Violette said, "Horses like this will make any trainer look like a genius.  This filly has a world of talent.  If we keep her happy and healthy she will do the rest herself.  We knew there was a lot of speed in this race, but our filly has a really high cruising speed.  She uses that as a weapon.  We thought that if we put away the other speed they would have a real hard time catching us.  Eibar did a great job of putting pressure on the field.  They ended up having to chase us, and they couldn't catch us."

Jockey Eibar Coa said, "I knew I was on the best horse in the race, and I rode her like that.  My filly didn't want that other filly in front of her.  She pulled me to the front, so I let her go.  When I asked her on the turn she gave me a nice burst, and I only had to keep her about her business.  It's pretty easy when you're on the best horse and they run like you expect them to."

West Point Thoroughbreds President Terry Finley said, "We're grateful to have such a talented filly.  Rick has done a wonderful job with her.  We have been on one heck of a ride, and we plan to hang on as long as we can.  We believe that Dream Rush is one of the top few fillies in the country, and now she's a Grade 1 winner.  We look forward to her continuing to prove her excellence on the track."

A three-year-old daughter of Wild Rush, Dream Rush now sports a career record of five wins and two seconds from seven career starts.  With her Prioress earnings, Dream Rush has now banked $449,739.

Dream Rush will now point for the $250,000 Darley Test Stakes(G1) on August 4th at Saratoga.
