Lear's Princess tackles Rags To Riches in Gazelle(G1)

September 13, 2007 · By · Share

Lear's Princess is set to tackle Rags To Riches and three other foes in this Saturday's $250,000 Gazelle Stakes(G1) at Belmont.  Lear's Princess drew the rail in the field of five, and Eibar Coa is back in the irons.  Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin has decided to add blinkers for the race.  He looks to have Lear's Princess focus a little bit better through the course of the race.

Lear's Princess enters the Gazelle off of back-to-back runner-up finishes in the Grade 1 CCA Oaks and the Grade 1 Alabama.   Lear's Princess has trained very well since the Alabama.  We should get a good trip with such a small field, and we know that Lear's Princess is dead fit.  We also get a seven-pound weight break from Rags To Riches in the race.  We expect her to run big on Saturday, and we are not in it to run for second place.

West Point Thoroughbreds President Terry Finley said, "These are the kind of races we all want to win, but there's going to be a little extra spark taking on a filly like Rags To Riches.  We certainly respect her accomplishments, and she's a great asset to the sport.  However, we will lead Lear's Princess to the starting gate looking to win the race.  When you start setting expectations at just hoping to run well then you've become satisfied with less than excellence.  We believe Lear's Princess is an excellent filly, and we look forward to testing her against the best three-year-old filly in the country."

The Gazelle will go off as race nine on Saturday's Belmont card.  Post time is scheduled for 5:12 EDT.
