D J Lightning wins Prom Stakes

October 20, 2007 · By · Share

D J Lightning, a two-year-old filly managed West Point Thoroughbreds for Partner Don Brooks, remained undefeated by capturing the $60,000 Prom Stakes on October 19th at the Meadowlands.  Running over a sloppy and sealed track, D J Lightning sat fourth just over two-lengths behind a sharp first quarter-mile in 21.3.  D J Lightning commenced her rally on the turn sweeping five wide to rally into contention.  She remained wide entering the stretch, but when asked D J Lightning exploded through the stretch drawing off with every stride to a four-length victory.

Jockey Joe Bravo said, "A lot of horses don't like this kind of track, but my filly had no problems.  We were out in the middle of the track a little bit, but that also kept us out of the worst of the slop.  I had to give away some ground on the turn, but when I asked my filly she really responded.  She had plenty left in the tank."

A daughter of Doneraile Court, D J Lightning now has two wins from as many starts.  She collected $36,000 for her Prom Stakes victory pushing her career earnings over $60,000.
