Letter from the President - December
As we sprint past Thanksgiving and head toward the New Year, thankful is a word that we hear quite often. I don't think that being thankful should be confined to one day a year. Rather, I am thankful every day for the blessings that have been heaped upon me and the success the stable has achieved. As we prepare to turn the page on another calendar year, I cannot resist taking stock of what made me thankful in 2007.
One constant in my life for which I am thankful is my family. While the stable achieved unprecedented success in 2007, the most gratifying aspect of the year was sharing the success with my wife Debbie, my daughter Erin, and my son Ryan. Debbie's loyalty and strength carry me on many days, and I am so thankful to have her by my side. I am even more thankful for the tremendous job she has done as a mother. Our two children have turned into exceptional individuals. Last year they both went off to school, so the holiday season was a different experience for us. However, we remain very close and have been able to travel more frequently to see them. We were all together for the Breeders' Cup, the pinnacle of success in our sport, and those two days with each other were very special.
On the racetrack, we shattered all of our historical records in 2007. Our results are thanks to the hard work and dedication of so many people including my team, the trainers and their staff, and the talented horses. I cannot express my gratitude deeply enough to everyone who made this glorious ride possible.
Finally, I remain deeply thankful and humbled by the support of our Partners. Their enthusiasm energizes me daily. I receive so many notes, e-mails, and phone calls each day from Partners that often times write simply to give thanks. These heartfelt sentiments are greatly appreciated. The people that support us sustain us. The faces that I see time and again will mean the most to me when I look back on my career. Thank you.
As I look ahead to 2008, I see great promise. This year's two-year-olds are off to a blazing start with eight different winners, and I expect them to become the backbone of our three-year-old crop. I also eagerly anticipate the 2008 campaign of graded stakes winners Awesome Gem and Lear's Princess. Our main target this spring will be the $6,000,000 Dubai World Cup for Awesome Gem. While we set the bar high in 2007, I look forward to the opportunity to raise the bar even higher in 2008.
I wish you all a joyous holiday season. May 2008 bring you and your loved ones health, happiness and continued racing success.
