Saratoga Russell ready for Gotham

March 06, 2008 · By · Share

His name might not be Bruce Wayne, but Saratoga Russell will seek to thwart nine foes in the $200,000 Gotham Stakes(G3) on Saturday at Aqueduct.  Our brilliant three-year-old son of Trippi enters the Gotham off a devastating allowance score at Gulfstream Park.

Saratoga Russell Saratoga Russell drew ideally in post four of ten with regular rider Eibar Coa flying in from Florida for the mount.

Trainer Rick Violette, Jr. said, "This is a big test for us.  We have never been two-turns, but I think he should handle it.  He looks a lot more like his damsire Theatrical than his sire.  He's lanky colt with a real nice stride.  He looks like he should handle the added distance, but you never know until they do it."

Violette is not the only person to hold Saratoga Russell in such high esteem.  He has been made the Daily Racing Form's best bet of the day on Saturday's card.  Saratoga Russell is perfect on off tracks.  Heavy rain is in the forecast for Saturday.
