Lt. Ron one of fastest 3yos in country
Two starts, two wins, and two triple digit Beyer figures confirms Lieutenant Ron's status as one of the fastest three-year-olds in the country. On Sunday he demonstrated his brilliance destroying an allowance field at Aqueduct. Lieutenant Ron broke well from and quickly struck the front while under wraps. Flashing his brilliant natural speed, Lieutenant Ron remained in front through a half-mile in 45.4. He opened a daylight lead at the top of the stretch and drew off with authority while under only a hand ride. Lieutenant Ron stopped the teletimer for seven-furlongs in a blistering 1:22 flat. The 1:22 was nearly two seconds faster than the Grade 3 Bay Shore the day before and nearly a full second faster than Saturday's Grade 1 Carter for older horses. The impressiveness of his effort cannot be underscored as he earned a 101 Beyer.
Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said, "We have known from day one how talented this horse was. He is brilliantly fast, and he proved how good he was again in his second start. He has boundless potential. (Jockey) Alan Garcia was just along for the ride. I love the way he finished up. We'll keep all our options open."
A son of Graeme Hall, Lieutenant Ron's earnings now stand at $67,200 from two starts.
