Macho Again entered in Derby Trial

April 24, 2008 · By · Share

Macho Again returns the Churchill Downs strip he adores in the $100,000 Derby Trial on Saturday at Churchill Downs.  The Derby Trial is run and seven and a half furlongs.  Macho Again will face a deep and talented field with numerous graded stakes winners and an abundance of speed.  However, Macho Again drew a favorable post position and should get a perfect stalking trip.

Trainer Dallas Stewart said, "I was wishing that the race was last weekend.  That's how well he has been training.  He loves this track, and this race is run at a tricky distance.  It's probably a little too long for pure sprinters, and it's too short for real route horses.  Macho Again has enough tactical speed to not get too far back, but he also has a strong closing kick.  I have always felt this was a talented colt, and I am anxious to get him back out there against other quality horses."

Macho Again will break from post six of ten with jockey Julien Leparoux in the irons.  The Derby Trial has been carded as race ten of eleven.  Post time is 5:17 EDT.
