Macho Again to run in Preakness(G1)
West Point Thoroughbreds' stakes winning three-year-old Macho Again will run in the $1,000,000 Preakness Stakes(G1) on May 17th at Pimlico. Macho Again enters the Preakness off of a stirring victory in the $100,000 Derby Trial on April 26th at Churchill Downs. A son of Macho Uno, Macho Again has three wins and second from seven career starts.
West Point Thoroughbreds President Terry Finley discussed the decision to run in the Preakness saying, "This colt has only gotten better as the spring has worn on. Dallas Stewart has always thought highly of him, and his last race was simply outstanding. He ran a career best number. He is really coming to hand at the right time. You have to throw out his two races on the synthetic surfaces, and we believe he had a legitimate excuse in his other two-turn race. He is bred to go two-turns, and Dallas has always told me that this horse wants more ground. We have tremendous respect for Big Brown, but sometimes you have to take a shot. When we weighed all the factors, the case to run was compelling. I think we will be the third of fourth choice in the race. I'll take those odds when the race you're talking about is the Preakness Stakes."
Trainer Dallas Stewart said, "The colt is training great. We're not going to change a thing. We think he might be the second fastest horse in the race behind Big Brown. When you're in that type of position you have to take that chance."
Macho Again will ship to Pimlico on Wednesday.
