Tropic Storm favored in Longacres Mile(G3)

August 14, 2008 · By · Share Tropic Storm drew post two of twelve and has been installed as the 5/2 morning-line favorite in the Grade 3 $300,000 Longacres Mile on Sunday, August 17th at Emerald Downs.  The Longacres Mile is a "win and you're in race" for the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile.

We could not be more pleased with Tropic Storm's draw.  He will be able to use his tactical speed while saving all the ground.  The highweight in the race is the Canadian invader True Metropolitan who has been the Canadian older horse of the year the last two years.  Tropic Storm shipped on Thursday from his base in southern California.  He will stay in trainer Tom Wenzel's barn under the care of Craig Dollase's assistant Sergio Martin.  Wenzel won last year's race, so hope the luck of the barn with rub off.

West Point Thoroughbreds President Terry Finley commented on the race saying, "The Longacres Mile is a great race.  It always attracts a strong group of horses from both the local area and California.  We love the position we are in, and we believe that Tropic Storm will continue to show his class.  The fact that this is an automatic qualifier race only enhances our excitement."

Trainer Craig Dollase said, "This colt has been training wonderfully.  We have targeted this race for some time, and I think that he fits very well.  Tropic Storm has knocked head with some of the best horses in California, so I know that he is battle tested."

The Longacres Mile is scheduled to run at approximately 8:30 EDT/5:30 PDT.
