Macho Again favored in Grade 2 Super Derby
Macho Again, West Point Thoroughbreds' three-year-old graded stakes winner, has been installed as the favorite in Saturday's Grade 2 $500,000 Super Derby at Louisiana Downs. One of the autumn's most prestigious races for three-year-olds, the Super Derby drew a well-matched field of ten runners.
Macho Again enters the Super Derby after finishing a troubled eighth in the Grade 1 Travers. Earlier this summer, he captured the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga and stamped himself as one of the top three-year-olds in the country.
Unlike his trip in the Travers, Macho Again arrived in excellent shape to Louisiana on Tuesday. The smooth sailing continued when he drew ideally in the starting gate in post three.
The Super Derby will be a homecoming for Macho Again's trainer Dallas Stewart who resides in Louisiana and once worked as a valet at Louisiana Downs.
Stewart feels Macho Again is ready for the Super Derby. "You have to toss the last race. He had a horrible trip. He got stopped just when he began his run. He's trained great since then, and I think he will rebound nicely down in cajun country," Stewart said.
Post time for the Super Derby is scheduled for 6:12 EDT and the race will be shown live on TVG.
