Justwhistledixie Wins True Affair Stakes
Filly Impressive in Stakes Score
Sometimes the nice guys, or in this case, the nice girls, do finish first. Such was the case Friday afternoon in the $69,750 True Affair Stakes with our two-year-old filly Justwhistledixie. Regarded as the nicest and friendliest horse to be around in trainer Kiaran McLaughlin's barn, 'Dixie showed she certainly has a future that matches her temperament with a convincing three length win in the overnight stake Friday at Aqueduct Racetrack. Perhaps the most impressive thing about her win was the fact that she stopped the timer in 1:23 flat, a full two seconds faster than the two-year-old males would run an allowance in later on the card.
Justwhistledixie broke alertly from the middle of the pack and stalked the leader intently throughout the first half mile under the confident handling of jockey Alan Garcia. Then, at the top of the stretch, 'Dixie was given her cue by Garcia, and she responded like a very professional filly, quickly opening up on her six rivals en route to the comfortable score. "She was very nice today, " said Garcia. "I knew I had a lot of horse underneath me all the way around the track, and when I asked for her to run, she was ready. She has a very good future," he continued.
Assistant trainer Artie Magnusson could not have been happier with the filly's effort. "She's been doing so well in the morning, I just hoped she would run like she did last time she went to the gate (a seven length maiden win back on October 13th). She does everything you ask of her and today she was just magnificent." Magnusson continued, "I think she beat a really good field today too. This is a filly we're really going to enjoy and have a lot of fun with going forward."
For her win, the two-year-old daughter of Dixie Union earned $41,850 and has now banked over $85,000 for her partners in her young career. She ran her record to two wins and two thirds from four starts with the stakes win Friday.
