El Gato Malo to Run in Stakes on Valentine's Day

February 12, 2009 · By · Share West Point Thoroughbreds Looks to the West on Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is traditionally a day spent showing the ones you love how much you care and we're no different here at WPT.  But the ones we love include our stable of horses and this year, our Valentine's Day will be especially exciting.  Graded stakes winner El Gato Malo will run in the $50,000 added McCann's Mojave at Golden Gate Fields on Saturday.

"The Bad Cat" looks to resume his winning ways as he comes off a sixth-place finish in the San Fernando in mid-January.  His trainer, Craig Dollase, believes that El Gato Malo just didn't care for the Santa Anita track that afternoon.  "He came out of the race in great shape; I just don't think he cared for the surface.  I think he'll give much better account of himself this Saturday."

Russell Baze, North America's winningest jockey, will have the mount on El Gato Malo, who breaks from the rail in the field of five.
