Macho Again to Run in G2 New Orleans Handicap
Preakness Runner-up to Take on 13 Opponents in Half-Million Dollar Race
Already a G2 winner thanks to his gutsy performance in last summer's Jim Dandy, West Point Thoroughbreds Macho Again will try to add another graded-stakes win to his resume as he is scheduled to run in this Saturday's New Orleans Handicap at the Fair Grounds. The race is a G2 $500,000 event that will be run at a mile-and-an-eighth.
Macho Again comes into the race seven weeks removed from his 7th place finish in the Sunshine Millions Classic at Gulfstream. In that race, Macho was closeup heading for home, but was then bumped repeatedly and never was able to run in the lane.
This Saturday, trainer Dallas Stewart hopes for a better effort from his 4-year-old and said if his recent works are any indication, he's got a big chance. "He's been doing so well in the mornings. He's training as well as I've ever seen him, I hope it carries over to the afternoon."
Macho Again drew post 11 of 14 in the New Orleans and will be ridden by Fair Grounds leading rider Robby Albarado. "Robby has been working him in the mornings, and we're glad to have him aboard Macho," said Stewart. "I just hope he runs his race because when he fires, he's a real tough customer."
