Jockeys Named for Oaks Fillies
Dominguez and Leparoux Named to Ride in Oaks
Ramon Dominguez and Julien Leparoux have been named the riders of West Point Thoroughbreds' one-two punch in the upcoming Kentucky Oaks. Dominguez will be aboard Fitz Just Right, while Leparoux has the call aboard Justwhistledixie.
Dominguez, currently the nation's leading rider in wins, has taken the call on Fitzy for the G1 $500,000 race on May 1st. He currently leads the Aqueduct rider standings by a remarkable 68 wins with 134 victories. Dominguez has more than doubled his closest competitor Chuck Lopez, who has 66 wins. "Ramon is undoubtedly one of the best in the business," said WPT President Terry Finley. "We're thrilled to have him on Fitzy for the Oaks."
Leparoux, meanwhile, will retain the mount aboard Justwhistledixie. He piloted 'Dixie to her win the G2 Bonnie Miss in March and has been white hot as of late at Keeneland. Leparoux leads the Keeneland jockey standings with 24 wins from 83 mounts (through Monday). 40 of his 83 mounts have finished in the top two spots, a remarkable 48% clip. Leparoux also won last year's fall Churchill Downs meet riding title with 63 wins, 22 better than Robby Albarado. "We've had success with Julien in the past, and he's at the top of his game right now. We're excited that he'll be aboard 'Dixie in the Oaks."
