Justwhistledixie Draws Post 5 in Kentucky Oaks
The 'People's Champion' to Break Next to Rachel Alexandra
Justwhistledixie, who is attempting to win her sixth consecutive race, will break from post five in this Friday's $500,000 G1 Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs. The race which is scheduled to be run at 5:45pm EST drew a field eight horses and will be shown live on the Bravo Network, which will provide coverage from 5pm-6pm EST.
The list of entrants lined up to take on 'Dixie includes Rachel Alexandra, who has won six of her nine career starts, including four straight, Flying Spur, who finished second behind Rachel in the Fair Grounds Oaks, and a trio of entries from Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas.
"We were never too concerned about the post position draw," said Justwhistledixie's trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. "She's the type of filly that will make her own race. She can be close to the pace if it's slow or she can come from off of it if it's too fast."
West Point Thoroughbreds President Terry Finley echoed the trainer's thoughts, "'Dixie is ready to go no matter where she breaks from. We're extremely excited about our filly's chances and we're looking forward to the race."
Only two of the entrants in the race have notched graded stakes wins at this point in their careers: Justwhistledixie and Rachel Alexandra. Not surprisingly, those two are the top choices in the morning line, with the latter listed at 3-5, and 'Dixie listed at 5-2.
The Oaks will be both 'Dixie and Rachel Alexandra's first appearance in a Grade 1 event. "There are a lot of nice horses in there," said Finley. "We wouldn't expect anything else, and we also wouldn't trade places with any of them."
