Graded Stakes Winner Out of Oaks with Bruised Foot

A bruise on her right front foot will prevent Justwhistledixie from running in the Kentucky Oaks this afternoon at Churchill Downs.  The contusion was discovered prior to her entry in the race 'Dixie was scratched from the Grade 1.  The announcement was made on the track at around 3pm EST.  X-rays taken on the foot showed no other structural damage.

"It's obviously extremely disappointing," said WPT President Terry Finley.  "I'm glad it showed through in the barn and was discovered before she ran in the race.  The good news is that it's only a bruise and she'll be back.  It's nothing serious, but it would not have been the right move to run her."

"She took an 'off' step in her stall," trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said when asked about 'Dixie. "We called the vet over and he took a look at her and she was really tender in her left inside front. We took the shoe off and there was heat in there. It's just horrible timing. She'll be fine, but it's really disappointing."
