Justwhistledixie Doing Much Better
Graded Stakes Winning Filly Won't Miss Much Time
Justwhistledixie, who missed the Kentucky Oaks with a bruised foot, is doing "much better" according to her trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. McLaughlin said there is nothing "seriously wrong" with the filly and that she could return to training as early as this week.
'Dixie returned to Belmont Park Sunday, and was equipped with a Z-bar shoe on Monday. The specially-made shoe helps to alleviate the pressure on the hoof.
McLaughlin said that 'Dixie could head back to the track as early as Wednesday. "We'll proceed cautiously with her, but she seems to be feeling much better."
He also said the bruise was a result of her shoe hitting her on the inside quarter of the foot. "I felt terribly when we discovered it and that we missed the Oaks, but it doesn't appear to be anything serious at all."
McLaughlin said he would discuss her future plans with WPT President Terry Finley in the next few days.
