Greg's Lassy Makes it Two in a Row
Lassy Scores Fourth Career Win
When Greg's Lassy joined trainer Chris Englehart's barn earlier this month at Finger Lakes race track, the leading trainer at the meet knew he was getting a good runner. "I spoke with Mike (Hushion) about her after he sent her up here, and he spoke very highly of her," said Englehart. "He told me he thought she would be very competitive at this level."
Sunday afternoon, Hushion's words proved to be right on as Greg's Lassy broke on top and never looked back en route to her fourth lifetime win. Breaking from post four in the field of seven, Greg's Lassy took control from the bell and led after an opening quarter of :22.3, and a half of :45.3. As they turned for home, jockey John Davila, Jr. had a comfortable lead and would go on for the three-length win.
"She was very professional today," said Davila, Jr. "Chris told me he wanted me on the lead because this filly's at her best when she's up front. She faced some pressure early, but was much the best today."
Greg's Lassy is owned by Donald Brooks, and managed by West Point Thoroughbreds. The five-year-old daughter of Millions earned $8,040 for the win, and now has over $116,000 in career earnings. She also improves her race record to an impressive four wins and four seconds from fifteen career starts.
