Flat Bold Poised for Jim Dandy

July 27, 2009 · By · Share

West Point Thoroughbreds’ Flat Bold is primed to make his stakes debut in the $500,000 Grade II Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga Racecourse this Saturday, August 1. The three-year-old colt by Flatter is poised for a big effort after a dominating performance in a Belmont Park allowance race on July 11.

Flat Bold began his career on the west coast before heading toward the Atlantic. He has two wins in seven starts and has been steadily improving since his maiden victory in April at Aqueduct.

Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin is very high on this colt and believes he is prepared for the jump to stakes company. "This colt ran lights out in his last start. He showed the ability to wait behind horses and exploded at the top of the stretch. I am looking forward to a big effort."

West Point Thoroughbreds’ Terry Finley is equally high on his colt. "This colt has really come around in the past several weeks. He is a beautiful horse with a long stride. After how impressive he was in his last start, we felt we had to take a shot."

Flat Bold had his final workout July 26 at Saratoga as he continues to prepare for the Jim Dandy. He completed four furlongs in :47 and five furlongs in 1:01. The work was 4th best out of 11 for the five furlongs.

Ramon Dominguez, who steered Flat Bold to his most recent victory, will have the return mount. August 1 is the 4th day of live racing for the summer meet.
