Reine Des Lions Wins!

August 12, 2009 · By · Share

The old racing adage is "drop to pop". Well, the old adage came true as Reine des Lions popped to nearly a three-length win on the drop in class at Penn National on Tuesday night at Penn National. Reine Des Lions was outsprinted in the early stages and sat fourth, two-lengths back, through a quarter-mile in 22.3. Jockey Carlos Cruz swung her out entering the stretch, and she gradually wore down the pacesetters grabbing the lead inside the sixteenth-pole and drawing off to nearly a three-length victory. The final time for the race was 53.19 seconds.

Lupe Preciado said, "I thought she could beat these horses, but I was a little nervous when she didn't make the lead. She managed to get a nice clear run on the outside and passed those two horses in the stretch. That was very good to see. A win is a win no matter where they come."

The three-year-old Lion Heart filly now has two wins and three seconds from ten career starts.
