Palace On A Lake Wins!
West Point Thoroughbreds' four-year-old filly Palace On A Lake showed her affinity for the rail in a gutsy win on Tuesday at Philadelphia Park. She sat just off the early pace then advanced inside the pacesetters on the turn before grabbing the lead in the stretch and gradually edging away late to win by a little less than two-lengths.
Trainer Guadalupe Preciado said, "Jockey Richard Monterrey said he thought the post position really helped us this time because he didn't have to fight the filly getting out. She was already down on the rail, so there were no horses to interfere with. She moved up well on the turn. I thought she might hang after she made the lead, but Richard did a nice job keeping her going. It was a good race. There's no substitute for getting a horse in against other horses more their speed."
The win was the second on the year for the daughter of Lido Palace. She earned $10,800 for the victory, bringing her career earnings to over $70,000.
We will look to bring Palace On A Lake back to the starting gate in a few weeks. Hopefully she can make it three on the year for the black and gold.
