R J's Brigade Set For Saturday's President's Cup
West Point Thoroughbreds' veteran campaigner R J's Brigade is set to make his stakes debut in Saturday's $250,000 PTHA President's Cup at Philadelphia Park. The six-year-old turf aficionado is coming off a solid fourth place finish in an allowance/optional claiming race that was washed off the turf at Saratoga on August 29. He returns to his home base to contest five rivals in the one mile and one eighth event. Two starts back, he was victorious on the lawn at Belmont Park.
The pace scenario looks ideal for the son of Gone West. Although he is not a textbook "speed" horse, he will likely be on the lead in a race full of confirmed closers. It is up to the others to catch the black and gold.
Trainer Lupe Preciado is high on his horse's chances. "He has been training very well. I am glad to get him back on the turf. I hope he gets an easy lead and never looks back."
The President's Cup is race 10 on a 12 race card on Saturday with post time of 4:16 EDT. R J's Brigade drew post 1 of 6 with regular pilot Victor Molina aboard. He was assigned 113 pounds, 9 pounds lighter than the high weight.
