West Point Duo Turn In Final Works For Breeders' Cup

October 31, 2009 · By · Share West Point Thoroughbreds' duo of Awesome Gem and El Gato Malo turned in solid final workouts Friday morning at Hollywood Park in preparation for the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships on November 7 at Santa Anita.

Awesome Gem worked a good six furlongs in 113:00. He picked up some company a quarter mile into the work, and came home in 11 and change. He finished up strongly. Trainer Craig Dollase was very pleased with the effort and said he cooled out well. Awesome Gem remains on target for the $5,000,000 Breeders' Cup Classic. The Hawthorne Gold Cup (G2) winner ships to Santa Anita on Monday to begin final race preparations.

El Gato Malo worked a bullet five furlongs in 59:40. The work was best of 26 at the distance.  He went by himself and Craig Dollase said he cruised around the racetrack.  He could not have gone any better. The 2008 Lone Star Derby (G3) winner will contest either the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint or the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile.

West Point Thoroughbreds' wishes the best of luck to both Awesome Gem, El Gato Malo, and all of our partners. We are very excited to take part in Breeders' Cup 2009, and are fortunate to have two talented horses carrying the black and gold silks.
