Justwhistledixie 2nd In Return
We weren't sure what to expect. Five months is a long time, especially when facing older fillies and mares in stakes company. Two words sum it up; she's back. Justwhistledixie ran an ultra impressive second in the Top Flight Handicap (G2) at Aqueduct on November 27. She broke well and settled very nicely for jockey Jose Lezcano. She raced wide down the backside and was bumped repeatedly by eventual winner Sara Louise. Justwhistledixie made a five wide run at the head of the lane and challenged the winner through the stretch. Although gaining steadily, she just missed by half a length.
Trainer Bill Mott said, "This filly ran huge. I am very happy with this performance and think this race will set us up for a very fun 2010 campaign."
Jose Lezcano said, "My filly felt very good. We were wide all the way around the track. If she has a better trip, she most likely wins. She dug in at the end, but just could not get by the winner."
Justwhistledixie earned $30,000 for her runner up effort. She now has a record of 5-2-2 from 9 career starts. Her career earnings are now over $427,000. We are pointing our talented filly toward the $300,000 LaBrea Stakes (G1) on December 26 at Santa Anita.
