Amazed By Grace Runs Third In LaBrea (G1)
Although Amazed By Grace was unable to make it six in a row, she sure gave us a thrill on Saturday in the $300,000 LaBrea Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita. She broke well and showed a tremendous early turn of foot under jockey Garrett Gomez. She dueled on the lead with Kays and Jays and was pressured on the outside in the early going by favorite Gabby's Golden Gal
Turning for home, Amazed By Grace was floated out, but quickly assumed command. She then fought on gamely, but was unable to hold off the rush from closer Evita Argentina. She narrowly missed second, to finish third, beaten only two lengths in all.
Trainer Guadalupe Preciado was thrilled with his filly's effort, saying, "She ran her heart out. She relaxed on the lead, even though she was pressured was on the outside by the favorite. This filly tries so hard."
Jockey Garrett Gomez said, "This filly ran a great race. It is a shame I was pressured on the outside early on, or we may have had enough left to hold off the winner. She's got a huge stride."
What a thrill it is for West Point Thoroughbreds to have a filly like this. Earlier this year, we weren't sure if she would ever make it back to the races. Now she hits the board in a Grade I at one of this country's premier racing venues. Amazed By Grace has truly amazed us this year, winning five in a row in only two months time, and finishing third twice. She has five wins from eight starts, and has earned over $188,000.
We are giving this gutsy filly a well earned rest after her fabulous 2009 campaign. She will return to the races in 2010, and look to start a new win streak as a four-year-old.
