Rereadthefootnotes Romps In Hollie Hughes!

February 17, 2010 · By · Share

How do you spell stakes winner? R-E-R-E-A-D-T-H-E-F-O-O-T-N-O-T-E-S! Rereadthefootnotes was super impressive in his first stakes win on Monday in the $65,000 Hollie Hughes Stakes at Aqueduct.

Showing his patented speed from the gate, Rereadthefootnotes flashed to the front and made a surprisingly easy lead. Jockey Ramon Dominguez was able to throttle Rereadthefootnotes down through a quarter-mile in 23.1. That effectively was the end of the race. Rereadthefootnotes cruised through a half-mile in 46.2 and widened his lead throughout the stretch to win by over three-lengths while ridden out. He stopped the teletimer in a sharp 1:09.4.

Trainer Mike Hushion said, "Mission accomplished. We were pointing for this race, and he did exactly what we hoped he would. I was very surprised the rail horse took back and conceded the lead to us. When our horse gets to the front like that he will run you into the ground. He relaxed nicely and had plenty left in the stretch. They were never going to get to him. He's a real pro. He has gotten better with each start."

Ramon Dominguez said, "That was the perfect setup. My horse breaks like a quarter-horse. He will go fast early, but he'll also relax on the front end. I got away with a slow first quarter-mile, but I was also very pleased with the way he came home the last quarter-mile.

The bay son of Read The Footnotes earned $39,000 for the victory. His career earnings now total over $186,000. He has a record of 5-1-2 from 9 career starts, and has been a model of consistency since joining Mike Hushion's barn. We look forward to a fun year with this talented gelding.
