Camp Victory Wins!
Camp Victory was victorious for the second time in his career in his first try over the Golden Gate surface on Sunday. The flashy dark bay son of Forest Camp laid off the 4-5 lengths off the frontrunners in the early going before launching a big run at the quarter pole. Jockey Michael Martinez swung him wide at the head of stretch and Camp Victory dueled through the lane to prevail by half a length. The black and gold bearer stopped the teletimer in a snappy 1:09.96.
Trainer Carla Gaines said, "This horse really handled everything like a professional. The instructions were to let him break and settle, and he did just that. He'd been training very well and I was confident that he would run big."
Jockey Michael Martinez said, "My horse felt great. He settled nicely and responded when I asked him. I am happy we got up in time."
Camp Victory earned $15,600 for this allowance triumph. He returned to Carla's barn in southern California at Santa Anita and will be freshened up before embarking on a summer campaign.
