Justwhistledixie Back In Distaff Handicap
Justwhistledixie returns to action on Saturday in the $150,000 Distaff Handicap (gr. II) at Aqueduct. The four-year-old daughter of Dixie Union is looking for her fifth stakes win and third graded stakes win. In November of 2008, she captured the Love Affair Stakes over the Aqueduct main track, and then returned to run a game second to Sara Louise in the Top Flight Handicap (gr. II) in November of 2009 over the same surface.
Our filly won five races in a row from October 2008 through March 2009, including the Davona Dale (gr. II) and Bonnie Miss Stakes (gr. II). She was then second in the Grade I Acorn Stakes before a freshening. ‘Dixie was fourth in her two most recent starts, The El Encino (gr. II) at Santa Anita and The Sabin (gr. III) at Gulfstream. She had tough trips in both of those races, and is in a great position to return to her previous form.
"We think this is a good spot to get our filly headed back in the right direction", said Terry Finley, president West Point Thoroughbreds. "Her last two races have been disappointing, but she has had six very nice works since the Sabin, and I know Bill (Mott) is very happy with her leading up to this race."
Trainer Bill Mott said, "I think seven furlongs could be her ideal distance. She is very fit heading into this race and I think she will run very well. Jose (Lezcano) rode her very well in the Top Flight last year."
Justwhistledixie drew post 6 of 6 in the Distaff. Jose Lezcano is aboard for the second time. Post time for the race is 4:50 EDT on Saturday.
