Feed A Fever wins!!!

June 11, 2010 · By · Share Comfort food, it's something like meatloaf and mashed potatoes.  For horses that dish may be sweet feed or a nibble of hay.  For owners, the ultimate comfort food is watching your horse line up in the starting gate as the favorite and cruise home to victory less than two minutes later.  After yesterday's race, we're all pretty full as Feed A Fever returned to the winner's circle with a convincing score at Hollywood Park.

Feed A Fever settled at the back of the pack early in the mile and a sixteenth race.  She remained at the back of a tightly bunched field through a half-mile then began her steady advance while traveling four wide.  She circled the field on the turn and pulled her way to the front entering the stretch.  With only a mild cue from jockey Martin Pedroza, Feed A Fever pulled away through the stretch to win by nearly two-lengths.

Trainer Craig Dollase said, "This filly is all heart.  She's not going to win the beauty contest or be the star on the team, but she tries harder than anyone.  I knew she was a winner on the turn.  Martin (Pedroza) told me that the filly took him to the front all by herself.  When she made the lead he tapped her once and she kept going.  They weren't going to catch her."

Craig plans to give Feed A Fever a little time before her next race so that she is fresh to run at the beginning of the Del Mar meet.  We expect to have fun with her where the surf meets the turf.
