Tapit's Brew wins!!!
There was a storm brewing today at Belmont. Did you see it? This storm didn't contain rain or even wind. No, the thunder in this storm was that of Tapit's Brew as he rolled over the turf to a decisive maiden win.
Tapit's Brew broke well and went to the front under confident handling by jockey Rajiv Maragh. He got the quarter-mile in 24.1 and the half-mile in 48.2. Tapit's Brew opened up a daylight lead after a half-mile but was tested again on the turn through six furlongs in 1:11.4. However, Tapit's Brew shook free again and opened a commanding four-length lead early in the stretch to seal the victory. Tapit's Brew remained well clear through the stretch to score a decisive victory
Trainer Tom Albertrani said, "I thought Rajiv rode a very smart race. Tapit's Brew doesn't have an explosive turn of foot, so we wanted to keep him right up near the pace. There wasn't a lot of speed in the race, so he went to the front. When they came after him he kicked away. They never threatened him. Rajiv said the horse was moving really well. He wanted to make sure we finished strong, and he did. A race like this might really pick up this horse's head and give him some confidence. He ran a nice race..
Tapit's Brew will likely run back in the first half of July.
