Montana Knight wins!!!
Montana Knight broke well and sat fifth early behind a wicked hot early pace. Montana Knight angled out on the turn and launched a full assault on the leader. He got within a half-length at the eighth-pole then surged strongly in the last fifty yards to pull away by over a length to score his second straight win.
Jockey Channing Hill said, "They were going fast up front. I didn't want to rush my horse. I was in a good spot. I got him out, but the runner-up was making his move at the same time. When my horse straightened away he dug in. He found another gear late and went right by the favorite. I had a hard time pulling him up."
Trainer Mike Hushion said, "He ran a great race. He had perfect position early then moved out. The runner-up got first run on him, but our horse just dug deep and really accelerated. I loved the way he galloped out. He was much more professional and just wanted to win. Horses have to step up facing winners for the first time, and he really showed nice fight."
Montana Knight earned an 82 Beyer in the race. It looks like we might have found his niche sprinting on the turf. We'll look to run him back either late at Saratoga or early at Belmont.
