Phosphorescent Returns to Home State for MD Million

September 30, 2010 · By · Share

The aptly named Phosphorescent (Rock Slide-In Glowing Colors) looks to stamp his ticket to the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint on November 6th this Saturday in the $100,000 Maryland Million Turf Sprint at Laurel Park. A replication of his last performance (PA Governor’s Cup Handicap at Penn National) makes our Guadalupe Preciado trainee a forced to be reckoned with just after 2pm on Saturday. He was second by ½ a length to top turf sprinter Chamberlain Bridge who went on to win the Turf Monster at Philadelphia on Labor Day. A solid performance by our colt will likely result in a rematch of the two green lovers in the Breeders’ Cup.

Phosphorescent has won four of 12 starts for West Point Thoroughbreds. He has blossomed since shipping east earlier this year. He won a first level allowance on Preakness Day at Pimlico before dominating at the sophomore allowance level at Philadelphia Park.

A native of the Old Line State, our colt looks for two wins in two races in front of his hometown crowd.

Terry Finley, president of West Point Thoroughbreds says, "This guy has turned into such a cool horse. He’s a grass aficionado and it has been fun watching him develop over the past few months after we gave him some time off to develop and mature. Our sights are set on the Breeders’ Cup, and Maryland looked like the best avenue to get us there."

The Maryland Million Turf Sprint is race 5 with post time of 2:43 EDT. Phosphorescent is #7 of 11 with regular rider Victor Molina aboard.
