Amazed By Grace Seeks 2nd Straight Cornucopia Victory!

November 22, 2010 · By · Share

WPT’s Grade 1 placed runner Amazed by Grace seeks her second straight victory in the $75,000 Cornucopia Stakes tomorrow at Parx Racing. Our three-year-old daughter of Bowman’s Band stamped herself as the Pennsylvania Thoroughbred Horseman’s Association’s "Three-Year-Old Filly of 2009" due to her outstanding accomplishments last year.

She captured five straight races in 2009, and culminated the year with a gutsy third place finish in the LaBrea Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita. The ride this filly has taken us on has been nothing short of amazing. Given only a 30 percent chance of making it to the starting gate when it was discovered that she had a throat issue after her first start, the vet said our only option would be to give her some time off and hope she grew out of it. Our patience paid off, and our filly developed into something very special.

After the LaBrea, she spent some time on the farm in Kentucky recovering from a knee injury before returning to her homebase of Philadelphia Park in late summer. She didn’t run very well in her return race, the College of New Jersey Stakes at Monmouth on October 16th, but came out of the race with a pretty nasty lung infection. Put a line through that one.

Here we are back at her home track, and Grace is feeling better than ever. She’s got three bullet works to her name over the past few weeks, and trainer Guadaupe Preciado loves his chances in tomorrow’s race. "She feels very good and is training as well as ever. We were all surprised with her last race, but had an excuse. There is a lot of speed in the race, but Victor (Molina) knows how fast our filly is and should be able to control the early pace."

"This filly has been so good to us," said WPT president and founder Terry Finley. "In early 2009 we weren’t sure we’d ever make it to the races, and now here we are with a Grade 1 placed filly that looks primed for a great five-year-old campaign.

Amazed By Grace has five wins and two seconds from nine lifetime starts and earnings over $189,000. The Cornucopia is race 9 on the Parx Racing card tomorrow with a post time of 3:53 EST. Regular pilot Victor Molina is back aboard.
