Dominant Jeannes Wins!

January 03, 2011 · By · Share

As most revelers were still recovering from their New Year's Eve, the West Point team went to work early to secure its first win of the year.  Running in the first race of the day at Aqueduct, the stable had an opportunity to set the tone for the year.  While going undefeated for the year might seem a bit ambitious, we couldn't try without getting that first win.

We liked our chances with the talented son of Plesantly Perfect, Dominant Jeannes, returning to allowance company after stepping into graded stakes waters last time out.  Making only his second start around two-turns, our half brother to WPT graded stakes winner Justwhistledixie stepped out to the front to control the early pace and was pressed from the outside in the early stages of the race. Under the nation's leading rider Ramon Dominguez, our gelding never looked back and drew clear in the stretch to score by 1 3/4 lengths as the 0.65-1 favorite in the field of six. Winning trainer Tom Albertrani said, "We freshened him up after his last race in the Discovery Handicap and wanted to give him another shot around two turns. I always thought he could handle extra distance, and he proved more than capable today. He's a big, strong horse that looks to have a bright future."

Dominant Jeannes earned $27,000 for his second career victory. Look for him back in action at Aqueduct in a few weeks.
