Runflatout Ultra Impressive In Debut

January 29, 2011 · By · Share

West Point Thoroughbreds was well represented this weekend by the stallion Flatter. Two of his sons carried the black and gold silks to victory in impressive fashion. On Friday, the handsome Flat Bold made child’s play of a “three other than” allowance at Aqueduct. This afternoon, our three-year-old Runflatout lived up to expectations and scored decisively in his racing debut at Santa Anita.

Breaking from post 2 under jockey Garrett Gomez, Runflatout stalked the early leader Tokubetsu down the backside before flying past his foe and winning by 2 ½ lengths under mild hand urging. Needless to say, there were several very happy WPT Partners in the winner’s circle who were thinking, could this be the horse that gets me to the Kentucky Derby? Take a look at the race.

“Ever since this horse came into my barn, I knew he was special,” said trainer John Sadler. ‘He’s a big, strong, athletic colt that exudes class. I think he’s the real deal.”

Jockey Garrett Gomez said, “This colt did everything right today. He’s so fluid and athletic; all I had to do was sit there. This is a special horse.”

"We've always loved this colt," said WPT president Terry Finley. "From the second we laid eyes on him as a baby, we saw a real athlete. He was on target to debut over the summer, but got a little bit sick on us, so we just took our time and got him 100%. We couldn't be more excited about his future."

Runflatout earned $32,400 for his maiden breaking victory. The future looks bright. Look or him back in action at Santa Anita.
