Runflatout Faces Only 4 Rivals in Sunday's Lazero Barrerra Memorial Stakes at HP

Runflatout returns to a one turn competition in the $100,000 Lazaro S. Barerra Memorial Stakes (G3) on Sunday at Hollywood Park. A three-year-old son of Flatter, Runflatout broke his maiden in ultra impressive fashion on January 29th at Santa Anita, running the fastest winning six furlongs (1.07:70) of any first time starter in the history of racing.

“We’ve always thought this horse was special,” said WPT president Terry Finley. “He had some minor issues that prevented him from running as a two-year-old, but we worked th
rough them. He obviously showed a ton of talent in his debut.

We ran him back in the San Felipe going two turns in his second start, and he got hooked in a speed duel. If you’ve been in this game long enough, you know that those things happen. Horses with this much natural speed can get in a tough spot sometimes. John and his team have worked to teach him to harness that speed, and we think he’s going to be very effective.”

Given plenty of time between races, Runflatout looks primed for a huge effort. His recent workouts have been visually impressive. Trainer John Sadler says, “He couldn’t look any better. He’s dappled out and feels great. Everything just comes naturally to him.”

The Laz Barerra is race 3 on Sunday at Hollywood Park with a post time of 2:01 PDT/5:01 EDT. Runflatout is #1 of 5 in the 7 furlong contest with Garrett Gomez aboard. Gomez was aboard in his maiden breaking win.
