Middle of the Nite Wins!

May 24, 2011 · By Erin Birkenhauer · Share

WPT’s near black gelding, Middle of the Nite made his move to Canada a winning one, drawing away by three lengths in a 40k claiming race (40k pot as well) on Saturday at Woodbine.

After some mediocre races earlier this year, Terry Finley and the West Point team decided it was time for a change. Offlee Wild progeny have done well on artificial surfaces, and this gelding showed some life on the turf, so the Toronto venue was a logical choice.

The purses are solid at Woodbine. This horse still has a conditioned claiming race open to him, as well as the first level allowance. We could make a nice chunk of change if he continues on a winning path.

“Middle of the Nite has been a bit frustrating at times,” said Terry Finley. “Patience plays a big role in this game. We knew that talent was there with this horse, but he hasn’t always had all the screws in place mentally. It’s nice to see things come together with him. I really think the surface and venue change really helped in a big way.”

Trainer Mark Casse said, “This was a good effort. He moves well over the Polytrack, and didn’t chicken out once he made the lead, like I know he has in some of his previous races.”

Middle of the Nite earned $24,539 for his second career win. Click here to see the race chart.
