Top Yearlings Join West Point Stable

October 12, 2011 · By Dawn Lenert · Share

MOUNT LAUREL, NJ - Terry Finley and his buying team traveled to Saratoga, Keeneland, and across the Atlantic to Ireland on a mission to acquire a solid group of yearlings to add to the stable roster. They felt supremely confident each time the hammer dropped.

One of the factors driving this confidence is that West Point has incorporated even more tools to enhance its horse acquisition strategy this season.

Integrating more internal staff into the vetting and evaluation process, soliciting a greater amount of trainer input at the sales, and the use of heart scan technology to aid as a future predictor of success all tie back to the main goal - to drive higher performance on the racetrack.

The yearlings are starting their educational journeys with veteran horseman Kip Elser at Kirkwood Stables in Camden, South Carolina. Elser is a leading expert in breaking and training Thoroughbred yearlings and two-year-olds, with a thirty year plus proven track record of developing grade I stakes winners.
